The National Honor Society, established in 1921, was founded with the purpose of recognizing and encouraging academic achievement. The National Honor Society's goal is to develop characteristics essential to citizens in a democracy. These characteristics are service, leadership and character. The National Honor Society strives to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in students

All current 10th, 11th and 12th grade students who have maintained a 4.0 GPA or higher during their high school career are eligible for nomination to LHS C.R. Miller Chapter of the National Honor Society. A student must have been at LHS at least one semester with all transfer grades complete to be eligible for National Honor Society nomination.

National Honor Society membership is not based solely on academic achievement. NHS is an organization that recognizes outstanding individuals who are able to balance academics with other responsibilities and interests. NHS recognizes those well-rounded individuals who serve as positive role models and contributors to school life. Therefore, selection for membership is based equally upon evidence of the three additional qualities, after eligibility is met through academics. Click on each for examples:

Leadership

A faculty council comprised of five faculty members appointed by the principal will make the selection. Leadership and service contributions are determined by the student nominee’s completion of a Student Activity Information Form (form is available to eligible students at the information meetings announced in the induction nomination letter.) The student nominee will complete the information form and return it to the sponsors by a deadline complete with sponsor signatures. Thoroughness in the completion of the information form will be reviewed and evaluated by members of the faculty council. The vote of the faculty council is final.

Induction is held once each academic year. This year's induction will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, in the Little Theatre. Family members are invited.
